CnC blog to comment on

The Library is open to the public but our meeting rooms are not open yet. I have had several CnC members ask when will be able to meet again. We are trying to figure out a way. I am wanting your ideas on what you would like. You are very creative, we can come up with something. I have put up the Blossom Stitch Washcloth we were going to do in April. Realized we need a place for you to comment with ideas without having to come into the library.

Remembering we used to use a blog that allowed commenting, I dusted it off and made a post you can comment on there.

Blog – https://chatncraft.wordpress.com/

Think about – Do you Zoom? Day/week/time you would be available? Post patterns and youtubes to learn a new stitch or ???

Let us know what you come up with. I will make a poll later from what you comment on and we can narrow it down. Look forward to seeing what you come up with. Go to the blog and post your comments.

Chat n Craft – Crochet Blossom Stitch Washcloth

This was a class we were going to have before we had to close the library. I am working on a way we can have some virtual meetings and classes. We would love to see Show n Tell items you have been working on during this time.

A free crochet pattern from 5 Little Monsters –

She made these washcloths for a Mother’s Day gift. They are a little bit lacier and more open than she normally uses for dishcloths or washcloths but it is solid enough to still work well and she wanted to use a pretty feminine stitch. The stitch she used is called the blossom stitch and it is made using a combination of single crochet, double crochet, and chain stitches.

She always uses 100% cotton yarn any time she is making washcloths or dishcloths. For this particular project she used Peaches and Cream yarn but any worsted weight cotton yarn will work just fine. The colors she used were Aquamarine, Ocean Coral, Fresh Lilac, and Mint. I used about half of a 2.5 oz ball for each washcloth so you can probably get 2 out of each ball if you make them the same size she did.

These washcloths are quick to make and paired with some pretty smelling soap or lotion make a nice gift. Crocheted washcloths are nice to have on hand when you need a quick little gift for someone. Maybe a mom, grandma, sister or friend.

Finished size approximately 8 1/2 inches square

Supplies:

  • 60 yards of cotton yarn
  • H crochet hook

Instructions:

Begin by ch 30 (if you want to make your washcloth bigger or smaller add or subtract a multiple of 4)

Row 1: sc in the 2nd ch from hook, (skip 1, [dc, ch 1, dc] in the next stitch, skip 1, sc in next stitch) repeat to the end of the row, turn

Row 2: ch 4, skip dc, sc in first ch space, ch 1, skip dc, dc in next sc, (ch 1, sc in next ch space, ch 1, dc in next sc) repeat to the end of the row ending with a dc in the first sc of previous row, turn

Row 3: ch 1, sc in first dc, ([dc, ch 1, dc] in next sc, sc in next dc) repeat to the end of the row ending with a sc in the 3rd chain of the starting ch 4 of the previous row, turn

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until desired length ending with row 2. I repeated both rows 7 more times and then row 2 one more time.

To finish sc evenly all around the outside edge working 3 sc in each corner, finish off and weave in ends.

Variety of projects

April 7, 2020 – Chat n Craft meeting has been canceled

Chat n Craft meets the first Tuesday of each month that the library is open. Because of the Covid 19 pandemic, the library is canceling all meetings for the time being.

Please keep checking our website for when the library will be open or closed and when our programming and meetings will be resumed.

Our next meeting will be a crochet class. We will be making a dishcloth with the blossom stitch. If you want to take the class, please bring a light colored cotton yarn, such as Sugar and Cream or Peaches and Cream, and an H crochet hook. If you know how to do a chain, single crochet and double crochet stitches you will be able to learn this blossom stitch. If you do not know sc & dc, please come at 5:30 so you can learn those before the blossom stitch class starts at 6pm.

If you do not want to take the class you are always welcome to bring your own project (BYOP) to work on.

Come join us for fun, laughter and don’t forget to bring your Show n Tell so we can all see.
