MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival- Reception and Initial Screening

MANHATTAN SHORT is an event that takes place in 400 venues across 6 continents during one week, and is breaking into the Library System across the USA.

Each year ten short films (Two Hour Show) which screen across the world. Audiences are asked to vote for the one they think is best. Votes are tallied by you – emailed to us and we announce the winner on Monday Oct 7.

Local author Paul W. Bass will give a presentation on his books and do a book signing.

Tales for 2s and 3s

Suggested age: 2-3 years old

The library staff use this 30-minute storytime to share our favorite books, rhymes, and songs. Families are encouraged to help build literacy skills through participation. Age-appropriate story time extension activities will be shared.

Skype an Astronomer

Using Skype, Astronomer Amanda Quirk will give a presentation about the Andromeda and Triangulum galaxy.

Book Signing: Edwin Hubble Story

Meet local history detectives and authors William and Doris Martin at a book signing for their book entitled “Dreams and Adventures: The Edwin Hubble Story.”

Long before “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” in the small town of Marshfield, Missouri an eight-year-old boy named Edwin Hubble would receive his first telescope and an Alfred Fowler astronomy textbook for his birthday.

Edwin Hubble became one of the world’s most famous astronomers. Stop by and meet the authors of this never-before-told story of how one of the world’s most famous astronomers fell in love with astronomy and made it his life’s work.

This is a FREE public event.

Fandom Fest: A Spacetacular Cosplay Ball

Galactic fandoms unite!  It’s a space-themed geek out with trivia, activities, crafts, and more.  Costumes and fandom accessories are highly encouraged but not required.  Grades 6-12.

Middle School Book Club–Summer Reading Edition

Read a book that ties in with the theme and come ready to chat about it.  You choose the book you read.

This summer’s theme is “a book that mentions stars”.  Feel free to bring a brown bag supper; dessert is on us.

Join us for a free build or try a space-age construction challenge.  Come for a little or stay for a lot!

Tie Dye

The tradition continues!  It’s our annual tie dye fest on the front lawn.  We’ll tie off the shirts then head outside for the rest of the fun.

Bring a white, 100% cotton T-shirt.  Caution, dye alert–be sure to wear old clothes and shoes!
