Suggested age: 2 to 5 years

Library staff read books, sing songs, share rhymes and fingerplays, and offer hands-on activities to build literacy skills and develop school readiness skills. Families are encouraged to participate, and a themed extension activity will take place afterwards.

WW1 Mobile Museum

100 years ago a promise was made! A promise to NEVER forget the Millions who lost their lives in WWI for the freedoms we hold so dear 100 years later! That is why the WWI Mobile Museum was created.

Joplin Public Library is honored to host the WW1 museum for one week in September. We invite all ages to view this exhibit and help keep the promise of never forgetting.

Chess club

Join the children’s department for its monthly Chess club meeting. Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade of all skill levels are welcome.

Joplin Writers’ Faire

Join us for the 2019 Joplin Writers’ Faire, an annual, collaborative library event that connects writers with current and potentially new audiences.

During this event, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and greet all sorts of local and regional writers, talk with representatives from writers’ groups and writing-related organizations, attend public readings, and enter a drawing for door prizes.

This is a FREE, all-ages event. Registration is not necessary to attend the event, though participating writers, groups, and organizations MUST register to reserve a table (see: http://www.postartlibrary.org/blog/calling-all-writers-2019-joplin-writers-faire-registration/).

Dog Day Afternoon

Independent readers in grades k-5

If your child is a newly independent reader, they are invited to come read to our certified therapy dogs! Register by phone or in-house on the day of the program.

Trivia Contest/ Fandom Day

Test your knowledge on all things space-related. For even more fun, come dressed as your favorite sci-fi character or something with a space theme. Costumes not required, but welcome. Play on your own or form a team of up to five people. Free to participate. Registration deadline is July 24, 2019.
