Special Back-to-School Edition–generate ideas for future activities and suggest titles for the library’s anime and manga collections

Anime and manga fans!  Meet other fans, watch anime, chat/rant/discuss; feel free to bring your drawings or sketchbook. Plus, we have snacks.

1-2-3 Play With Me

Suggested age: 1 to 3 years

This five-week program for families with children ages 1 to 3 years provides developmentally appropriate play opportunities in a fun and relaxed social environment. A different community expert each week will teach strategies for healthy child development, offer early literacy tips, and facilitate early
interventions.

Space is limited and registration is required.

Get ready to have fun! This 90 minute event for families with busy
toddlers and preschoolers only happens once a month, making it extra special. Opportunities for play-based learning using themes are offered throughout the Children’s Department. Each station encourages adult-child play and teaches early literacy skills. Come explore with us!

 

Graphic Novel Club

Suggested age: Grades 3-5

A four week program for elementary school children in 3rd to 5th grade. This program offers an afterschool snack and exploration of
elements of graphic novels.

 

Dog Day Afternoon

Independent readers in grades k-5

If your child is a newly independent reader, they are invited to come read to our certified therapy dogs! Register by phone or in-house on the day of the program.

Early Reader Story Hour

Join us for a special story hour for those who have graduated from our regular story times! Children will listen to and talk about a story and participate in a fun story extension activity afterward. Parent/caregiver attendance is required.

Suggested age range: 5-8 years old

Family Stories

Suggested age: 2 to 5 years

Library staff read books, sing songs, share rhymes and fingerplays, and offer hands-on activities to build literacy skills and develop school readiness skills. Families are encouraged to participate, and a themed extension activity will take place afterwards.
