First Impact: Important Information for Parents & Teen Drivers

The Joplin Public Library’s Teen Department will host First Impact, a driver safety program for parents, guardians, and teens on Thursday, October 17, 6:00-7:30 pm, in the library’s Community Room West. The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Participants can register by phone with First Impact (573) 884-3463 or online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/first-impact-new-driver-parent-program-at-joplinpublic-library-tickets-72784397091

The First Impact program is a 90-minute, evidence-based, traffic safety presentation designed to educate parents and guardians about Missouri’s Graduated Driver License (GDL) law. The goal is to reduce new driver crashes, along with resulting injuries and fatalities, by increasing parental awareness of the GDL law and by providing parents the tools they need to monitor, coach, and support their new teen driver. Parents and guardians are welcome to bring their teen driver.

The presentation is delivered by trained GDL Coaches. Presenters at our session will be Sgt. John Lueckenhoff of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Deana Tucker Dothage, Director of First Impact. The First Impact organization is a program of the University of Missouri School of Medicine and is supported by federal funds from MoDOT Highway Safety & Traffic Division.
