Explore and Play at Home: Monster Day

EEK! Brave little ones ages 2-5 are invited to dig into our Explore and Play at Home: Monster Day kits! Each kit contains 4-6 themed activities, crafts, and opportunities for learning. Kits are available on a first come, first-served basis in the Children’s Department.

League of Books and Bindings Book Club

Let’s explore the world of fairies and goblins with Simon, Jared, and Meredith Grace. Join the Children’s Department in our newest book club adventure as we discuss and explore Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi’s fantastical series The Spiderwick Chronicles.

This program is designed for 10 kids ages 8-12 and requires registration. We will meet in the Children’s Department, though some meetings may take place on the library’s front lawn. Register via phone (417-623-7953), email (childrens@joplinpubliclibrary.org), or in person by Friday, October 1.

LEGO Build-a-thon

The Joplin Public Library Children’s Department is excited to announce the return of LEGO Build-a-thon!

Come build and create! Children ages 2-12 are welcome and attendance is limited to 10 families.

Hey, Let’s Go!: Explore and Play at Home

Hey, let’s go!

Kiddos ages 2-5 and their grownups are invited to explore, play, and learn with our transportation-themed Explore and Play at Home kit! Each kit includes 4-6 thematic activities designed to foster curiosity, connection, and learning! Kits are available on a first come, first-served basis in the Children’s Department or via our Curbside Pickup service.

 

Children’s Chess Club

Children of all skill levels are invited to play chess with the JPL Children’s Department and the Joplin Area Chess Club!  We meet once a month for approximately 30 minutes to learn, play, and have fun. Registration is encouraged but not required. Register in advance by phone (417-623-7953), email (childrens@joplinpubliclibrary.org), or in person.

Dog Day Afternoon

Dog Day Afternoon is designed to help newly independent readers become more comfortable reading! Children will have the opportunity to read to one of our sweet therapy dogs and their owner in a quiet, non-threatening environment (each child will read for approximately 6 minutes, though the exact time depends on the number of therapy dogs and children in attendance).
