Join Post Art Library in the Post Reading Room for the 9th Annual Post Art Library Holiday Tea! This year’s event features a holiday piano performance by Susan Spracklen Cordell, a kids’ coloring table, and holiday tea & treats. FREE & open to the public. All ages welcome.
Susan Spracklen Cordell is a Joplin native who studied classical piano with the late Marie Guengerich for many years. Susan started playing ragtime piano at age 14 and has appeared in ragtime festivals and concerts in the US and Europe, including the Joplin Sesquicentennial Percy Wenrich Ragtime Tribute. She’s recorded ragtime CDs both solo and with her brother, Steve Spracklen. Susan enjoys piano music of all kinds, especially Christmas songs.
The annual Post Art Library Holiday Tea event is our way of thanking the community of Joplin for their support throughout the year while sharing Dr. and Mrs. Post’s enthusiasm for Joplin arts and culture and the holiday season.

Did you know we have more than 12 species of bats that can be found in Missouri? Can you guess what they eat? Come join MDC naturalists at the Joplin Public Library to learn about Missouri’s bats! We will discuss bats in Missouri (and some from around the world), what makes a bat a bat, and what we can do to help them. After the program make a bat mask to take home and explore a bat “cave.”

Come paint your own artificial mini pumpkin in the Children’s Department! Supplies are limited to the first 30 children. This program is geared toward children ages 5-12 and their families. We will have a few aprons available, but bring clothes that can get messy!
Take your pumpkin home to decorate for the holidays or leave it at the Library for our Halloween display.
Dog Day Afternoon is designed to help newly independent readers become more comfortable reading! Children will have the opportunity to read to one of our sweet therapy dogs and their owner in a quiet, non-threatening environment (each child will read for approximately 8 minutes, though the exact time depends on the number of therapy dogs and children in attendance).
(During this program, children have the opportunity to read to the dogs on their own. We ask that parents/caregivers watch through our large window. For this reason, we ask that children are independent readers and are comfortable with this set up.)
