Dog Day Afternoon is designed to help newly independent readers become more comfortable reading! Children will have the opportunity to read to one of our sweet therapy dogs and their owner in a quiet, non-threatening environment (each child will read for approximately 8 minutes, though the exact time depends on the number of therapy dogs and children in attendance).
(During this program, children have the opportunity to read to the dogs on their own. We ask that parents/caregivers watch through our large window. For this reason, we ask that children are independent readers and are comfortable with this set up.)

Join us in the library’s Bramlage and Willcoxon Foundation Gallery for the opening of Lost & Found: Remarkably Bright Objects, a community-based found art exhibit. All ages welcome!
Presented by Post Art Library, this art show coincides with our premier community read program, Joplin Reads Together. Our selected is Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby van Pelt. “Lost and found” is among the book’s themes and motifs, which is why we chose it for the theme of this exhibition.
In March 2023, we released an open call for entry for artworks that incorporate found objects. This call was open to anyone in the community ages 18+. What you see in this exhibit are original artworks that incorporate found objects.
Light refreshments will be available while they last! This is a free, public event. Library card not needed. Registration not necessary. Questions? Contact Post Art Library at 417.623.7953 x1041.
Join MSSU professors Dr. Amber Mintert, Associate Professor of Art & Design, & Dr. Rebecca Shriver, Assistant Professor of History, as they present on Swedish culture.
If you are participating in Joplin Reads Together, this event is part of the Joplin Reads Together offerings! (Event open to all adults, you do not have to be participating in Joplin Reads Together to attend this event).
