Joplin Public Library Secures Grant to Replace Staff-Facing Computers

Joplin, MO – 10/30/25 – The Joplin Public Library is pleased to announce that it has received a grant to replace 26 staff-facing computers used throughout the library. These systems support the daily work of library employees and volunteers, helping ensure that essential services continue to run smoothly behind the scenes.

The funding, provided through the Library Services and Technology Act, will allow the library to replace outdated internal computer systems with updated equipment better suited to the demands of modern library service. These improvements will increase reliability, reduce downtime, and provide staff and volunteers with the tools they need to continue serving the public efficiently.

“We are incredibly grateful for this grant, which allows us to invest in the technology our staff rely on every day,” said Justin Kelly, IT Manager. “When internal systems are dependable, our staff can focus more fully on what matters most: providing excellent service to our patrons and community.”

As more library functions move into the digital space, staff technology has become increasingly important to nearly every part of daily operations. From circulation and reference services to programming, administration, and volunteer support, quality hardware helps staff keep pace with community needs while maintaining the high level of service patrons expect from the Joplin Public Library.

The Joplin Public Library extends its sincere appreciation to LSTA and Dell computers for their generous support and ongoing commitment to public libraries. The upgrades will be rolled out internally and are expected to be completed by the end of the year, ensuring continued excellence in library services.

This technology improvement project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
